Conduct anatomical investigations in cases of violent death or suspected criminality, as well as the identification of cadavers and human remains.

Autopsies are performed at the Institute´s headquarters. In exceptional circumstances, the Director of the Institute may authorise certain post-mortem examinations to be carried out in other suitable premises in the judicial districts.
